Should Tourism Be Allowed in Antartica

Should tourism be in allowed in Antarctica? There is no doubt Antarctica is an incredible holidaymaker destination. Visitor numbers have increased rapidly over the polish few decades. During 1998-99, in the summer season, over 10,000 tourists visited Antarctica, comp ared with less than 2000, 19 historic period ago. This is not necessarily a good thing what to the highest degree all of the pollution peck cause whilst travelling to Antarctica? This brings us to the question Should touristry be allowed in Antarctica? Some mint think that tourism should be allowed in Antarctica. They think that volume need to be educated just about how Antarctica an extreme environment and climate. They think that we need to know what we are doing to the dry land such as, we are spoiling their habitat by global thawing because we are creating alike much pollution, on that pointfore creating the green house effect. It could be argued that because Antarctica is such a remote place we need to experience the divers(prenominal) cultures, wild life and scenery. They also believe that Antarctica has a magnificent wild with majestic mountains, glaciers, icebergs and abundant wildlife. Its remoteness, inaccessibility and severe climate add an part of adventure to a visit to Antarctica. On the other hand scientists involve to go to Antarctica to find out so much more about it. They also carry out the kind of science in Antarctica, that cannot be done any were in the world they also contribute to solution a global problem.Other people think that tourism should not be allowed in Antarctica because people Might introduce germs and diseases because when people dont clean their boots they go out get muddy and will pollute the water. When people are sick and they go too close to the physicals they will clear the diseases to them and the animals wont survive. Also when humans are taken to Antarctica they cogency harm the animals there, for instance they will leave rubbish in an imal habitats. They also might scare the animals with flash photography. They also believe that people might trample penguins breeding areas therefore the number of penguins will go down and eventually the penguins will turn extinct. There are more worries about pollution in Antarctica as well. In the Gulf of Mexico there has been a huge oil spill in the ocean, what if that happened to Antarctica? All of the animals would die, if they have got drinking from the water. In approximately 10 years there will be a huge rubbish dump, because we are leaving too much rubbish in Antarctica. Although tour boats may give people more jobs they are leaving oo much waste in its path. humanity Waste and leftover food scraps are usually thrown and twisted over the side of boats during tours. This is dangerous for the animals because they might eat it and they would most in all likelihood die. To conclude, I think that tourism should not be allowed in Antarctica unless they are scientist and goin g to preserve the content or to do research on Antarctica but there has to be rule that you have to get permit from the government and you have to be based a certain pith of distance away from the animals main habitat.

There is few remaining Mayan Art, which includes funerary pottery, ceramics, a building in Bonampak (which is around Chiapas, Mexico), has several murals. What is interesting is that Mayan finesse gave al roughly free reign to the artist. The artist was not required to have a bun in the oven off a work that fit any bulgeicular rules. The art unremarkably didnt depict anonymous priests and unnamed Gods. Some archaeologists believe that art was only produced by the wealthy. around of the people who lived were farmers who had to work hard to line a living. It is presumed tha t virtu alto nonplushery of the art was done by sons of kings, and the artworks do were presumption as gifts or sold to other wealthy lan tidy sumers. An interesting situation is that Mayans were one of the few civilizations that the artists signed their name to their work.ARCHITECTUREThe Mayan architecture is the order the men spoke to the gods. The first Mayan pyramid was said to be strengthened in Uaxatan, Guatemala, just before the birth of Christ. The Mayan architecture is one of the just about recognizable. Each pyramid was dedicated to a deity whose shrine was at the peak. At the lift of the Mayan civilization, cities like Chichen Itza, Tikal, Uxmal were created.URBAN DESIGNMayan cities were spread all throughout Mesoamerica. Locations of cities werenot planned to a great extent. In fact, most cities seem to be placed haphazardly. The Mayans easily adapted their cities to their surroundings. Cities that were in Yankee Yucatan existed on flat limestone plains, while c ities built in the mountains or on hills such as, Usumacinta, used the topography to raise their towers and tabernacles genuinely high.At the centre of all Mayan cities were large eyes, which held g everyplacenmental and religious buildings such as the pyramid temples and ball-courts.Although it seems that most planning was done in a haphazard manner, the Mayans placed very special attention to the directional orientation of temples and observatories. They were always constructed in ossification with Maya interpretation of the orbits of the stars.Outside of ritual centers were the formation of lesser nobles, bittyer temples, and person shrines. These less spiritual structures had much more privacy. Outside of the urban heart and soul were the less permanent and modest homes of common people. In essence, it was the most sacred and noble buildings in the centre and the further one got from the center the refuse of importance the dwelling was in the Mayan hierarchy. In the class ic Era the Mayans focus on great monuments (such as temples), public plazas. Interior Space was exclusively secondary. In the later-post classic era the Greater Mayan cities developed into more fortress-like defensives structures that lacked plazas. The Mayans in reality developed several unique building innovations, including the corbel arch which was a false arch achieved by stepping each successive block, from opposite sides, close at hand(predicate) to the center, and capped at the peak.MATERIALSThe Mayans lacked many construction technologies. They didnt have surface tools, pulleys, and even the wheel or at least they didnt use the wheel as a means to help in work. Mayan architecture was based on manpower. Allstone was taken from local quarries, and they broadly speaking used limestone. It wasnt only used because there was an abundance of it yet because it was easy to be worked with. The mortar generally consisted of crushed, burnet, and mixed limestone that is similar t o cement, and it gave a stucco finishing.PROCESSThe King or priests would supervise the labour of the common people. The peasants would work on the construction projects as a method acting to pay homage to the king and the state, and the construction typically took place when they were unable to do their agricultural work. The laboureres would carry loads of materials on their backs of roll them on logs to get them from the source, usually a quarry, to the site. The Mayans also had specialized workers such as architects who would deal the construction of the buildings.STYLEMayan architects did not build in right angles. They relied on bilateral symmetry meaning if you were to cut the building right down the middle, each half would look like a mirror check of the other side. They would also build temples on top of temples. This is one method on how they made some pyramids so large.COMMON STRUCTURESCeremonial PlatformsThese were made of limestone, and less than 4 meters in height. Pu blic ceremonies and religious rites were performed here. The buildings were often bracing by carved figures, altars and sometimes a tzompantli. A tzompantly is a sake used to display the heads of victims, or defeated Ball game opponents. The denomination comes from the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs, however,it has been applied to many other civilizations. The general interpretation is skull frustrate or wall of skulls.PalacesNeedless to verbalize, palaces were large and highly decorated. They were usually regain at the center of the city and housed the citys elite. Often, they were one-story and consisted of many small chambers and at least one courtyard. Sometimes, palaces were home to various tombs.E-groups heretofore a mystery today. The appeared on the western side of a plaza and they are a pyramid temple facing three little temples across the plaza. Some believe that these E-Groups are observatories due to precise locating of the sun through the small temples when viewed during solsites and equinioxes.Pyramids and templesMost religious temples say atop very high Maya Pyramids one theory stating that it was the closest place to the heavens. Most temples had a roof comb which is a superficial grandiose wall, they say the temples served as a type of propaganda. It was very occasional that these walls would exceed the height of the jungle. The roof combs would be carved with representations of rulers that could be seen from vast distances. Beneath the temple were a series of platforms split by steep stairs that would lay off access to the temple.ObservatoriesThe Maya were very intelligent people, and they were keen astronomers, they had mapped out phases of planets. The method they learned about this is through their observatories. The Mayans had these round temples, often dedicated to Quetzalcoatl or what they cal guide him Kukulcan, and if you go on tours many guides will say that they are observatories but realisticallythere is no evidence to pro ve this.Ball CourtsAn integral part to any Mesoamerican lifestyle. One slushy machine had a red drink called greenish blue De Jamaica, and the other one a creamy white one, Horchata. Tamarind and infusions of hibiscus flowers are what give Jamaica its red color. My dad ordered Horchata, which is made from a conspiracy of long grain rice, milk, and sugar. We both sipped on our ice cold drinks, while placing our orders to Maria. As we waited for our food to arrive, I headed towards a jukebox on the antagonist side of where we were seated. A comparison of the poems ‘A London Fete’ by George Patmore and ‘Clever Tom Clinch Going to be Hanged’ by Jonathan Swift Essay

The two poems A London keep by Coventry Pat more than than and Clever turkey cock Clinch Going to be Hanged by the poet Jonathan Swift both share the solution and the standoff of public execution, although from each one poem has a different focus point.A London Fete concentrates on the impression the impression that the assemblage watching the execution gives to the poet. Blasphemed and fought for places, describes how everyone wanted a place from which to watch. To windows, where, in freedom sweet, others enjoyed the wicked treat, illustrates how much the people in the crowd enjoyed it, as does Thousands of eyeballs, lit with hell. Burnt one way all, to see the rope unslacken as the platform fell this also shows us that the crowd gathered all stared intently as if they were all one superstar person.Yet with all the many people there a man with yelling tired, stopped, and the culprits crime inquired the use of vocabulary chosen shows that even though there is a large rabble gathered nobody there at the time knows neither who the damned man is nor the culprits crime was.It didnt matter about the name of the man, if he had a family or not, even whether he was innocent or guilty, no respect was given to the condemned man.The rope flew tight, the waitings over, and then the roar, Burst forth afresh less loud, but more confused and affrighting. the crowd has lost its unity, its roar. The use of the word common din, the snake pit of noises illustrates the use of how the author describes the pre-hanging scene.Clattering and clanging of hateful voices, sickening and stunned the air, depicts right how much the poet sees the crowd as sinne rs during this very religious time.A marauder slunk off with ample spoil, to ply elsewhere his daily toil, this line tells us that although Public execution was designed to stop others from committing crimes others pocketed from the crowd, stealing money, this suggests that the supposed deterrent actually had minuscular effect.A baby strung its doll to a stick a mother praised the pretty trick. two children caught and hung a cat, Copying the event and the praise received shows that the people considered it to almost be like a show and how it influenced childrens lives even how the children saw of it as a game instead of the dramatic loss of human look.Adults had been little affected even after seeing something so awful cardinal friends went off, in lively chat Basically it was part of normal life during that time. The poets use of language reflects on how she saw the event, its personal, and her view of the crowd as she watched the horrid event and the people almost as bad as t he criminals himself. The title itself appears to have a sarcastic tone usually a fete would be a celebration. The poem appears also to be very realistic and quite dramatic with a sinister mood as the crowd is not in anyway sympathetic towards the criminal.Clever Tom Clinch Going to be Hanged is also an ironic title seeing as if Tom Clinch was clever then he would never have been caught and the poem also has a comedy feel towards the theme of public execution.

(2009) apprize that it is practical to build the seek methodology and look into design in such a way that it supports the general civilize and objectives of the question. As such, every aspect of the methodology must reflect the overall pu rpose of the query, and be ge atomic number 18d towards answering the explore question and accomplishing its objectives (Neuman, 2000).This chapter thus outlines the methodology through which the question objectives were met, and the question answered. Several important circumstanceors, such as the question philosophy, design, strategy and information accretion ar highlighted. Issues relating to the researchs validity, generalizability and re obligation are overly discussed. look into Philosophy accord to Easterby-Smith et al (2008), it is important to understand the research philosophy being use upive in pointsing research, as it helps finish off how the research should be designed, ariseed, and how information could be pile up and conk outd. Easterby-Smith et al also note that an taking into custody of the research philosophy could help the researcher in creating, designing and identifying research that whitethorn not in line with past experiences.Based on t he research patterns and objectives, the researcher deemed it near appropriate to adopt an suppresspretivist philosophy. This is imputable to the overriding aim of this research, which is to understand the reasons behind mixer enterprise funding, thus implying that in that location is a collect to understand kind responses to a situation, thereby qualification the result of the findings potentially native in nature (Denzin and Lincoln, 2003). Saunders et al (2009) note interpretivism is an epistemology that advocates that it is incumbent for the researcher to understand differences amid humans in our role as fond actorsThe researcher give need to make sense of the areaive and kindlyly constructed meanings expressed by respondents, as per the interpretivist philosophy (Saunders et al, 2009). The interpretivist perspective kitty be argued to be decidedly appropriate when it comes to management research ascribable to the complexity and uniqueness of business situatio ns (Saunders et al, 2012 Neuman, 2000). As a result of this choice, the irrefutable philosophy would not be adopted in this engage, as it would be in impressive to adopt a philosophy that observes and generalises societal reality (Robson, 2002). Collis and Hussey (2003) also argue that the positivist philosophy cannot help understand the inner feelings, attitudes and human emotions behind social enterprise investments, as these could differ from one investor to another. look for ApproachAccording to Collis and Hussey (2003) a research that adopts an interpretivist philosophy should be inducive in its approach. An inducive approach to research can help to march on an understanding of human interpretation to events, which is especially useful in management research, where the attitude and motivation of stakeholders matter (Saunders et al, 2009). As this study is concerned with understanding how social enterprise investors determine their investment criteria, then it is useful for this research to adopt an approach that makes it possible to understand human emotions and attitudes, compared to the deductive approach that is usually ground on generalised scientific principles and academic theories (Bryman and tam-tam, 2007). interrogation PurposeAs the aim of this study is to identify what social venture capitalists look for in an investment opportunity, this lends itself very much to an exploratory research methodology. According to Robson (2002, pg. 59), an exploratory research is a valuable means of finding out what is happening to seek saucily insights to ask questions and to assess phenomena in a reinvigorated light. Saunders et al (2009) also state that an exploratory research is useful if the aim of the research is to understand a problem, find out whats happening, or when the researcher is particularly unsure about a research problem. As such, an exploratory study is an pattern design, as it helps to answer this researchs question to a greater exte nt effectively. An exploratory study has been elect compared to descriptive studies which portray accurate events of people, events or situations (Robson, 2002), because this research seeks to find out and not to narrate. Furthermore, the literature review already shows that there is poor information on selection criteria on social enterprise investments, which defeats the purpose of a descriptive study. The same also applies to explanatory studies, where the emphasis is to study a situation and explain the relationship between two or more variables (Saunders et al, 2009). This study is not designed to assess the relationship between variables, but rather to understand investor attitude. An exploratory study is therefore the most effective form of answering the research question. info CollectionSaunders et al. (2009) suggest that when gathering primary data for an inductive exploratory study, it is normal that much of the data will be qualitative in nature. date there is a consid erable amount of quantitative data around the field of view of venture capital and social enterprise, these statistics are not sufficient to clarify investment criteria. A further issue with quantitative data is that this research does not seek to reconcile hypothesis and as a result, a methodology needs to be chosen that produces qualitative data. To answer the research question, and to develop a better understanding of this impertinent development for both the social VC and social enterprise industries, it is important to collect data that is well-off in opinion and explanation (as recommended by Morris and Wood, 1991). Qualitative data collection is therefore the most appropriate for this research. As it is anticipated that much of the primary data collected for this study will be qualitative in nature, Saunders et al. (2009) suggests that there are several techniques for gathering primary data. These include inter alia call into questions, surveys, focus groups, pillow sli p studies, and role player observation. To obtain rich data that will be sufficient to allow for outline, the development of themes, and sufficient contrast of opinion, techniques such as questionnaires and general surveys with large samples are unlikely to be effective (Morris and Wood, 1991). Firstly due to the fact that they will not provide the necessary opinion to answer the research question but more importantly due to the fact that there is a hold sample of useable respondents with the necessary experience in their industry, as will be minute in the data sources section of this methodology. While both the VC industry and the social enterprise movement are well completed, the actual link between them is relatively new and as a result it is important to select a technique that allows for the development of theories to emerge during data collection and analysis. A longitudinal study would potentially be ideal as would the case study method, since both of these allow for the opportunity for the discovery of interesting new ideas and theories (Adams and Schvaneveldt, 1991). A longitudinal study is not appropriate for this dissertation due to the conviction constraints, and so a cross-sectional study is more appropriate. While there was the potential to carry out a case study of both a social VC fund or a social enterprise, this would realise only provided information around one organization. To effectively analyse the link between two industries it is more appropriate to gather data from a broad cross section of organizations and links to avoid either any bias or isolate opinion (Collis and Hussey, 2003).According to Belk (2008), the main weakness of qualitative data collection is that it can be limited by insufficient resources. This means that because consultations are resource intensive, a narrower regorge of opinion is gathered. However Collins & Hussey (2003) argue that if the consultations are well unified even though they only gather the opinions of a relatively weensy research population the depth and breadth of data gathered and the fact that it is contextually relevant is surely sufficient in terms of data validity and reliability for an exploratory study such as this.Having established the time demarcation lines and the issue that the potential sample is limited but should be sufficiently broad, interviews emerge as the most appropriate methodology. As Sanders et al (2009) explains, there are a number of different ways that an interview can be conducted. It is first important to establish which structure of interview is the most appropriate. There are three main categories of interview structure, and these are structured, semi-structured and unstructured. The primary distinction between them being the level of freedom minded(p) to the researcher in terms of asking different questions to interviewees, and varying the distance allowed for the responses (Saunders et al, 2009).The literature showed that there i s no clarity as to either the criteria use for funding or for the advice to those seeking funding, and as a result there needs to be the opportunity for the interviewees to express opinion and provide information that moves beyond the confines of a set of structured questions. To develop new and interesting theories, it is essential that the interviews allow for different responses (Robson, 2002). However, this dissertation has a limitation of length which prevents unstructured interviews from being an appropriate technique as it could potentially allow for too much data to be collected making analysis overly complex or it could prevent the necessary focus on the issues related to the research question. Semi-structured interviews allow for sufficient data to be collected while also providing the flexibility that is necessary for the researcher to develop both original insight and sufficient opinion for the analysis (Bryman and Bell, 2007).Data Sources and Data Collection TechniquesS ince it has been established that the causation shall conduct semi-structured interviews, it is important at this stage to re-visit the research questions, which are as followsWhen evaluating social enterprises for fair-mindedness investment, which criteria are considered most important Do social venture capitalists differ in their evaluation criteria compared to commercial venture capitalistsSecondary research questionWhat are the drivers for the social venture capitalistsA questionnaire has been developed accordingly and used as a guideline, allowing for flexibility of the discussion and giving the respondents room to reject certain questions or focus on questions that was within their expertise, whilst still ensuring answers to the more lively questions. This semi-structured format is favourable also because it allows for discretion and prioritization in time management, without the need to interrupt or inconvenience the respondent (Neuman, 2000).Primary data has been gathered using said questionnaire, from five individuals that are responsible for screening social enterprises in the UK for access to equity investment. Five interview respondents were seen as ideal for a number of reasons. Firstly, this research is exploratory in nature secondly, time constraints would ease up made it difficult to gather and analyse data from more than five respondents and lastly, it was difficult to gain access to these individuals. The semi-structured interviews were conducted over the phone and in face-to-face environments, as per the respondents preference. The questionnaire was shared onward allowing the respondents time to consider and take aim for the questions if need be, as well as to filter out respondents who were not well suited. Research participants were encouraged to expand upon their responses to allow the researcher to gather a wide range of data (Belk, 2008). The interviews were audio-recorded with consent and subsequently put down verbatim1, in orde r to allow the researcher to focus on the interview and fully engage with the respondent, without compromising on the accuracy of the data collected (Robson, 2002). This further allowed for the researcher to take note of additional non-verbal communication to improve the quality of data retrieved (Kvale and Brinkmann, 2009). At the end of each interview, a thick was developed in order to reflect upon the progression of the interview treat and start developing any findings. This stop and reflect process in between interviews, as recommended by Saunders et al (2009), has allowed the researcher to adapt to this new knowlight-emitting diodege and delve deeper into the research questions with each ensuing interview. This process has led to an additional set of questions on the questionnaire2, with the aim of addressing four new research questionsIs there in fact a market/demand for equity investment in social enterprise in the UK Is there a supply/demand balance of social enterprises to social investment How do SIFIs interact What does the future of social investment look likein one case the data had been gathered, the author administered data reduction techniques (Miles and Huberman, 1994) by critically reviewing and selectively focusing on key parts of the extended text which are the transcripts. By extracting relevant pieces of information to answer our research questions, along with our notes end-to-end the interview process, the author was then able to codify the data, which was then subject to thematic analysis. Data collection, data analysis and the development and verification of the propositions have been very much an interactive and interrelated set of processes, whereby actual analysis occurred throughout. The flexibility of this process was key to enabling more insightful data and propositions, as enabled by an inductive approach.Issues of Reliability, Validity and GeneralisabilityReliability denotes the extent to which findings from a research can provide consistent findings, if another study were to adopt its data gathering and sampling technique (Easterby-Smith et al, 2008). The major threats to research liability respondent bias, respondent error, interviewer bias and interviewer error (Robson, 2002) were avoided bySending the questionnaires to the respondents beforehand to avoid misinterpretation of intent or questions. Audio-recording the interviews, and taking time-outs to reflect on the answers and ask further questions. Analyzing the data using data-reduction techniques, in order to place the key findings and avoid loss of data.Validity, according to Saunders et al (2009) is concerned with whether findings are really about what they appear to be about. The interview questions were based on the research question, thus linking respondent answers to the overall aim of the research. Furthermore, the respondents were licence professionals with industry insight on social enterprise investments. As a result, they were mos t fit to answer the interview questions. This helped ensure the data collected and analysed was valid.Generalisability measures the extent to which research findings are generalizable to other research settings (Saunders et al, 2009). Due to the inductive nature of this study, it is the researchers opinion that the findings of this research are generalizable to social enterprise investments in the UK. The findings from this research could help explain how investors determine what social enterprises they would invest in the UK. This is due to socio-economic factors that may differ from one rural to another.EthicsWith any primary research it is arbitrary that matters relating to research ethics are taken into account (Denzin and Lincoln, 2003). This includes ensuring that research participants have a lightheaded understanding of what the research will entail and their contribution to the research. Research participants have agreed to support the research voluntarily, and so Denzi n and Lincoln (2003, p.114) describe this as informed consent. The author has explained the nature of the research and reassured research participants of their role. Furthermore, confidentiality will be maintained through ensuring anonymity of research participants throughout this dissertation, only divulging participants names on a need to know hindquarters to dissertation assessors. nary(prenominal) only is this ethical best practice, but Bryman & Bell (2011) also highlight the fact that it further ensures that the researcher gathers legitimate data which is not subject to inadvertent bias, for example a research participant feels that they must say nice things about their supervisor. In this instance because the research is heavily reliant on personal opinion then it is imperative that research ethics are observed.Due to the respondents varying assumptions in comment when referring to key research terms, such as social enterprise and social venture capital, all questions w ere clarified in detail where necessary, and the author ensured an alignment of understanding prior to collecting data.ReferencesAdams, G. A Subaltern’s Love Song Essay

A Subalterns hump Song is a rhapsodic poem that details the poets real- life infatuation. Betjeman does non use the military definition of subaltern here, but instead is referring to someone in an inferior position. The reason struggles, somewhat happily, against his be whopd pursuance as she continually bests him at tennis. In Literature, poems depose often be very difficult for one to comprehend and interpret the authors perspective. Many people grew besides being exposed to the basic Roses ar red, violets are blue form of poetic expression, so anything that fails to employ elemental rhythmic phrases can be somewhat aloof to some people. song is one of the nigh artistic forms of literature because it influences the author to express well-favored thoughts and imaginations in somewhat of an abbreviated writing style, in contrast to essays, soon stories, and many more. A Subalterns Love Song by John Betjeman is an example of poetry that takes the get pronounceer on a t ransit of music and a love story. It was not until I actually read with the poem once did I realize that the title A Subalterns Love Song would actually allude to the typesetters case of this poem. The context of this poem is most certainly romantic, and indicative of a love story, however the form of the poem actually has a rhythm to it. I am not exactly certain if the author purposefully paralleled the word song in the title with music, but it was something that stuck out to me and was one of the things that did take prisoner my interest in this particular poetic work.Due to the fact that I am a one who enjoys reading love stories, my imagination was most certainly ignited by reading this poem. Another thing that peculiarly stuck out to me about this poem was the use of ambiguity regarding the soldier and the love interest. The author was successful in my opinion with his use of ambiguity to chevvy questions and suggest outcomes. (Clugston, 2010) All of the aforementioned com ponents of A Subalterns Love Song allowed me to be an active and responsive reader while I was reading this. The archetypal approach is the best analytical approach that can be used to describe this poem. The poems does not direct it attention to only one sole approach. Because the poem is not just limited to the authors feelings or way of thinking but it is delivered in a manner that the author has you thinking of different ways to show your love. The archetypal approach is being used in line five where it states Love-thirty, love-forty, oh flunk of joy (Clugston, 2010). It relates the weakness to as getting older in life and taking a chance on love. This also shows his progress through life in which he learns to love and finally ask for marriage. Were in the last stanza of the poem it sums up the whole meaning of the poem. A erect poem should write in such a way that it does not immediately reveal all of its secrets. But neither should the language be couched in such arcane and e soteric terms that discovering its meaning belong impenetrable. Poem is not a synonym for puzzle. When the inherent message of a poem becomes impossible to understand, then it becomes a more of an ordeal than a pleasure. The references should, in my view, be accessible to scrutiny in such a way that its treasures are unlocked upon careful and considered reading. A deliberately confusing poem serves no purpose other than to prove what a brisk Alec the poet is. A Subalterns Love Song is a absolute example of a well-structured poem. Upon first reading this seems little more than a clever poem written about a few posh twerps with too practically time on their hands. But, there is so much more going on. Its a love story that was not directly stated and I enjoyed the reading.

In dealing with step 2-The difference in costs amidst the high- gloomy period is ($26,000-20,500) $5,500. In dealing with step 3-The inconstant quantity cost is instanter computed. The cost difference $5,500 is divided by the service volume of 1,400. The variable cost per unit of service is $3. 93. In dealing with step 4-Total variable costs are now computed. In the low time period the number of meals provided is 3,500. The service volume is then multiplied by the cost per unit of $3. 93. The hit variable cost for the low calendar month is $ 13,755. The alike is done to figure the total variable costs for the high month 4,900 ? $3. 93 = $19,257. In dealing with step 5-Total fixed costs for the low period are now computed. The total program cost for the low month is $20,500.If the variable costs ($13,755) are subtracted from the total costs ($20,500) the stay amount is the fixed cost at $6,745. If the same is done for the high month ($26,000 19,257) the fixed cost is $6,743. In dealing with step 6-The break-even compass point is ready to be inputed using the BEP formula and steps 1-5. The contracted service price with the City of Westchester for 45,000 meals is $5. 77. The variable costs per meal is $3. 93 per meal, exactly will earn $5. 77. The difference between the variable cost per meal and the revenue per meal is 5. 7X = 6745 + 3. 93X is $1. 84 per meal. This leaves 3,666 which is the monthly BEP. Then 3,666 ? 12 = 43,992 is the pecuniary year BEP. The WHDM needs to provide 43,992 meals during the fiscal year t o reach the BEP. The difference between the contracted meals 45,000 and the BEP 43,992 is 1,008. The potential profit is 1,008 meals ? $1. 84 a total profit of $1,855. Human beings Essay

As hu part bes, we nearlytimes wonder wherefore some things argon the way they are. These questions come as a result of us being curious about what is around us. Man has to be aware of himself and his quick environment. Generally, star of the basic characteristic of human beings is self-awareness and self- husking. Man finds himself doing some things and wonders why he is doing such things the way he/she is doing them. Thus, in order for man to function properly in his society, he must understand some things about himself in order to unlock the brain-teaser behind his behavioural pattern. This becomes important because self-discovery is the only way to understand ones calculate or position in the universe. Personally, I live sought to slam how my life fits into my environment. For one, I deliberate that things dont just snuff it and that man is not just created to fill an empty space. This has made me record on a quest to understand what the ground actually is and how I f it into this mysterious ground. I am a proponent of the earnest universe and I hope, as opposed to the idea of Charles Darwin, that the world is essentially created to fulfill a purpose and that it is part of a master designing. Therefore whatever happens in this life, as I deal, is to fulfill a purpose and come from intent. The question here is who is the purposed the world and who is the master contriver? In her book titled, The enigmatical Heart of the Cosmos, Brian Swimme maintained that the world is not a series of puzzle but an amazing mystery that shows the presence of God in each passing phase. This essentially deviates from the supposition of evolution. For Brian, we as humans are at the center of the universe and our discovery of this fact pass on determine make us appreciate the world we live in the more.He believes that not only is the universe a work of the divine, it is also supported by the will of the divine. Therefore, we will be making a categorical mista ke by conceiving that things or occurrences in the world are merely a product of chance. From my full stop of view, I think that Brian Swimme has a point. This is because some things can not be explained from the point of Darwinism. For instance, as a child, I have always wondered which came first amid the chicken and the egg.If eggs hatches into chickens and chickens lay eggs, then which one will we range came first? Although science can be credited for a conduct of things that they have sought real explanations to, there are some things that turn over scientific explanation. This is accounted for in the thought of Huston Smith. In his book titled wherefore Religion Matters The Fate of the Human Spirit in an Age of irresolution, he claims that scientism has taken over all spheres of our lives and we will be committing a mistake if we believe that its explanations are the only valid explanations.I believe that the world is a masterpiece and it is sustained by the master plann er the silent onlooker who sees and sustains the universe with his personnel and in his might. Furthermore, I believe that since the world is created for a specific purpose, then man as an full part of this universe is also created for a purpose, which is to be the representative of the divine here on earth. Consequently, this should make us pursue some determine that will facilitate the purpose of the divine in this world.I believe that the divine has given man the power to make choices but that power should be tailored towards the achievement of the divine purpose. Liberty, as I believe, is not the right to do what we want but we are at indecency so that we can do what we have to do. As a result of these, I live with the consciousness of the fact that I have to fulfill my purpose. Personally, I believe that we as humans should value the equivalence of humanity and should action each man as Immanuel Kant said we should treat each man as an end in themselves and never as a me ans to an end.I believe that we should strive for whatever will be considered virtuous by the divine. As human beings, we must essay to value each other by being truthful and closemouthed to one another. This, for me, is the greatest form of respect that we can give one another.ReferenceHuston Smith, Why Religion Matters The Fate of the Human Spirit in an Age of Disbelief Harper Collins 2001 ISBN 0-06-067102-5, 14. 95 Brain Swimme The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos, Orbis, 1996 (1999, ISBN 1570752818)

Nike in Southeast Asia

plume Nike is the world deplumateer in the manufacturing of sports wear and gear. So at first, Nike didnt counterbalance attention to the criticism it was receiving because it was coming from a small group of activists, although after on, the social pressure became very lavishly that Nike was forced to take around measures to quiet down the public who wanted to endure what was going on. In this paper we will examine the various difficulties Nike faced as they tested to balance both, the lodge performance and good corporate citizenship. We will withal discuss what I would have done if I was in that position.Summary Nike, was founded in 1964 by Phil Knight, Nikes business model was developed by Knight mend attending Stanford Business School in the early 1960s. In 1998, Nike was the leader in the sports shoe industry, with annual sales of $9. 5 billion and a 40% share of the Ameri suffer sneaker market. It became a lightning rod for fend when alleged sweatshop conditions wher e happening in Southeast Asia. May 1998 is when Phil Knight, the founder and CEO, admitted that the Nike convergence has became synonymous with slave wages, forced overtime, and arbitrary abuse. What people couldnt guess was how Nike could get associated with deplorable labor practices. The strategy that Knight developed knobbed outsourcing all manufacturing to contractors in low wage countries and pouring the companies resources in high profile marketing. They where trying to take the blame off by axiom that We dont have a go at it the first thing of manufacturing. We are marketers and designers. They did argue to be marketing a lot by placing the Nike swoosh on the uniforms of athletes such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. When manufacturing started it was done in Japan, but as wages rose, they transferred performance to Korea and Taiwan. Later on, in 1982 more than 80% of Nike blank space where made in those two countries. But once again as wages went up they moved to Southeast Asia, by 1990 most production was based in Indonesia, Vietnam, and China. Young Indonesian woman who were working in Korean-owned plants under contract with Nike started at 15 cents an hour. Mandatory overtime was a good deal imposed, and workers with experience might make $2 for an 11-hour day.In 1991 Indonesian wage went up from $1. 06 to $1. 24, only two cents to a higher place what the government calculated as demand minimum physical needs. Workers often toiled in crowed, poorly ventilated factories, ring by machinery and toxic chemical all because the government was eager to attract foreign investment. Nikes initial response was to deny any responsibility for the practices of its contractors. They tell that these were depended contractors from which Nike merely buys shoes from. That the workers are not Nike employees, and that their wages are above legal minimum and the prevailing market rate. When asked about labor engagement in some factories supplying Nike, J ohn Woodman, the Companys general manager for Indonesia verbalize I dont know that I need to know. he defended Nike by saying that yes they are low wages, but they have given(p) jobs to thousands of people who wouldnt be working otherwise. At the end of the cheek it says he might have added giving employment to Michael Jordan, whose reported $2 million fee in 1992 was larger than the payroll for that year in Indonesia.I dont agree with the way Nike handled this case, there where other ways of taking alimony of the situation not just by saying that they didnt know and trying to wash their hands from the ongoing dilemma. If I was to be in their shoes I would have been regarding into what was going on in the factories since they are handling our product. Yes they did just some money but at what cost, their name was tarnished for a while and having people that supposedly didnt know what was going on didnt help them at all.One of the few things that I would have done was gave the workers some sort of incentive since, I supposedly didnt know what was going on in the factory. Yes you want to save money but you dont want to lose your consumers for such a reason like this. That is where ethics comes in and they have to wee-wee a meeting and figure out a way to look like the good guys once again by helping make the problem and prevent it from happening again, like setting up veritable laws that their subcontractors should go by.Through reading this case study I became aware that many things go on with a product, behind the consumers eyes that sometimes arent very ethical of the company that is selling to the consumer. It also teaches that no librate what, when a company is trying to cut expenses and they push the envelope a little to much a big chaotic scene can happen. Which if not handled right away can lead to the falling of the company that might have taken many years to build up.

Factors that are beyond the individuals control are prices of necessary life demands such as food, clothing shelter, and taxes. Division of Household Labor Essay

Using information presented in class lectures, discuss the variant of household labor (DoHL) in the unite States. Specifically, discuss a) how the DoHL has deviated since 1965 (with particular emphasis on plaza versus otherwise tasks) b) the cinque factors that explain the DoHL c) the effectuate of the DoHL on psychological sound-being and d) how the DoHL affects couples marital feature and stability (including material from class lectures and Hochschilds Second Shift). The DoHL changes after having children which tends to be to a greater extent than equitable amongst the man and woman since they withdraw to conk out their time to make sure that they can work on a safe and happy environment for ein truthbody, especially children. The change in DoHL between 1965 to present has drastically changed because women started to nurse their own get byers, so for example in 1965 women would perpetrate in 7. 2 hrs more than fathers in taking c be of the household and in 1985, wom en would put in only 2 more hours than fathers. The reason that is, is because most women in 1965 were committed housewives whereas as time progressed, with more women rights, women were focused on establishing their own c atomic number 18er path. The core tasks are tasks that just cannot be ignored, so for example cooking, cleaning, dishes and laundry are core tasks and in a flash it has changed because it would usually be the women doing all of that back in the 60s. before immense they dont have time to do that so they charter how to split the chores with their husband.Thats why in the gender outline, you see the thorough hours under fathers generally increasing and the total hours under mothers decreasing as the long time go by. If they are twain working long hours, if they have enough money, they can hire aroundone to come and do the core tasks. There are five factors that explain DoHL husbands and wives gender role attitudes, educational level, race and ethnicity, wives employment and armorial bearing of minor children. Starting with attitudes, it all starts with traditionalisticism. If the wife is a traditionalist, then by large she give do a lot more household labors compared to a wife who isnt a traditionalist. If the wife isnt a traditionalist, and her husband is, then there go out be a struggle in DoHL, most wantly she will end up doing most of the housework. Most successful marriages are when they are both non-traditionalists. Next factor is education, on average, the more education they have the more liberal attitudes they will hold on social issues in general, therefore being less traditional. However if they have quite some money, then gender attitudes may change, so for example, if he can reward the whole family with a high salary, she may not see a need to work and would decide to stay at home with the children. In race and ethnicity white men tend to have the most traditional beliefs, blue men have the least. Looking at core tasks , black men do the most, Hispanics next, then white last. Another factor, wives employment does change it because if she has a career the less time she will have to do the core tasks. If the wife is employed, her core tasks and her husbands core tasks go down because of less time on both people. In other tasks (like paying bills), which is less time consuming, the numbers increased. The last factor is the presence of minor children, if they dont have children, then as what we would expect, the distinction in terms of household labor is very small, however if they are both working and have children with childcare, then there is noticeable discrepancy, since women put in almost twice as many hours as men. The effects of DoHL on psychological well being varies. It can be very hard on both when they are tired and snappy from a long day at work and just not sense of touch like doing the second shift The single best predictor of long term relationships stability is plebeian values and ba ckgrounds because they would typically share resembling interests and values. Now by looking at core tasks and distribution, the hours put in core tasks doesnt effect the womans psychological well being however if the distribution is uneven (ie. She does more than 50 part of the work) then the abase her psychologically well being. For men, its the opposite, its the hours that alter them even if the distribution was uneven. So the higher number of hours he puts in, the lower his well being psychologically. Looking at the studies on the effects of fraction of household labor on marital quality and stability, they found that in couples, if the wife perceived the DoHL as unfair at time one, they were 3 times more likely to get divorced 8 years later, however if the husbands perception of the DoHL was unfair at time one, it didnt really affect the marriage, its mainly the wifes perception that matters. In conclusion, if they both thought that the DoHL was fair, then it would predict t heir marital quality as unspoilt. gravel for example, Nancy and Evan Holt in the book, The Second Shift, they would fight a lot base on DoHL, she was a feminist and he was a traditionalist, so having non common values didnt help their fighting but because equality was so important to her, didnt want to get divorced, and wanted things to be fair, she unconquerable to do the upstairs (mainly the core tasks) and he would do the downstairs (other tasks, like cleaning the garage and taking care of the dog).Did the DoHL between them end up working? Yes because equality was so important to Nancy. For Carmen and Frank, the DoHL didnt really douse them, first of all they both had similar values but its excessively because they really needed each others money and help. He did about half of the work especially cooking rice, using the cash machine machine and doing bills simply because she wasnt good at those things. She did the other tasks that she was good at, so there was truly quite a fair division therefore their marriage was content.

Black History Month Essay

Since 1976 coloured floor calendar month has been a remembrance of the events in the history of the African American movement. It is celebrated annu every toldy in the joined States and Canada in the month of February, and the United Kingdom in the month of October. In the U.S., Black register month is also referred to as African-American History calendar month. Black History Month actually started as Negro History Week in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. The goal of Black History Week was to educate the American slew about(predicate) African-Americans cultural backgrounds and reputable achievements. Mr. Woodson believed that black history was a lacking(p) segment in the minds of most American Historians of his sidereal day. Black History Month has certainly played a key role in establishing African American history as a historically significant segment of American History. You may be thinking to yourself, it is no longer a missing segment in the minds of most Americans, so there fore it is non germane(predicate) by todays standards.Nothing could be pull ahead from the truth, than that uneducated line of thinking. African American history IS American History I cannot argue that over a number of years it has decease a much than commercialized month, giving the opportunity to advertise and sell, more companies have used it for m onenesstary gain. However, so has Christmas and Thanksgiving and dont get me started about Valentines Day..but there is be quiet a reason we continue to celebrate these Holiold age.I believe it is because at theyre encumbrance they are good-tempered a go of American history and tradition. instanter they may have started elsewhere, but we have made them a part of our culture, our American culture. redden with the creation of black Friday and the 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 30 straight days of Christmas music on a popular radio station.we still have intercourse it is Copernican to gather with family, tell our sons, dau ghters, grand youngsterren and great grandchildren of Christmases past, teach them about important people in our family history both living and deceased. It is important to educate our youth and give proper respect to the people (family members) that had they not done what they did, some of our families may not be here today. They sacrificed and coat the way for everyone to be together on these holidays. That sense of family, tradition and preen in being an American is what Black History month is all about. Americans whom just so happen to be of African descent.Americans who gave up numerous if not all of their holidays so that theyre children and grandchildren would not have to. Black History Month tells the continuing story of American history from the African American perspective. Ill give you a couple of reasons why it is so relevant for todays generation and future generations. We all greet the stories of many great African American contributors Fredrick Douglass, Martin Lu ther King Jr. George chapiter Carver etc but, what about all of the non-African Americans who directly contributed to the abolishment of slavery, the education of an spotless generation of displaced people. Those that gave their lives in the name of humanity. Who will speak for those American heroes?why are they not mentioned in the same breath as Araminta Ross break away known as Harriett Tubman? You ask why is Black Histoy Month relevant. It is relevant because we have barely scratched the surface towards recognizing, learning, teaching and understanding the true signification of this American tradition. I thought about naming some of the non-African American contributors for those gathered here today, but then it occurred to me (I dont subscribe to to) part of my purpose was to plant a seed, contribute to intelligent dialogue. I stated I would give you a couple of reasons..The second one is this..In our classrooms we still teach Greek mythology, we teach about the Great roman type empires, We teach American Indian history, we teach about Eli Whitneys like gin, Thomas Edisons light bulb and many many more historically important people and inventions. Yet these groups of people and inventions are no longer with us in the same capacity as they at a time were. And some of their ideas and inventions seem like they could have been created by a child by todays standards. We teach about them because they are allin one way or another connected to the instruction of the same raceThe HUMAN Race When you fill out an lotion for employment, school or the census, youre asked to check a niche White, African American, Hispanic American, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander (maybe a few others) and then there is a box marked OTHER..Even with the diversity America has, who checks that box? Anyone mixed with two or more races? Anyone whose family history starts at Ellis Island? What if I told you OTHER is the fastest growing nation in the world? What if in 25 years OTHER is the rule population? I tell you this because I want you to think 50, 100, or 500 years from now when the OTHERS are the dominant race, how will they know of the contributions of African Americans? How will they know of the contributions of Irish Americans? Polish Americans? Jewish Americans? Philippine Americans? Asian Americans? American Indians? They will know because hopefully they will still be celebrating Irish American month in March, Filipino American Month in October, Hispanic Heritage month from Sep 15 to Oct 15, Jewish American Month in May and African American Month in FebruaryThat is how they will know Because no matter what box you check no matter what race creed or semblance you descend from, the key descriptor is that of being an American.
