Edgar spends much of the play cloaked as darkened tom. In fact when hes not disguised he seems very passive and powerless; he is easily fooled by Edmund and doesnt assert himself at all. When he disguises himself as Old Tom although he now has nothing and has to induce to be mad he has a lot much impact on the events of the play. He helps his father and shows much more heroism than he does in Act One. Like Lear his nature is much improved despite his circumstances.
