Edgar
1. Cast out and falsely accused, Edgar entombs himself as a unrestrained beggar.
2. He doesnt reveal himself to Gloucester yet tries to help him.
3. He ultimately ends up defeating Edmund chase a duel.
4. His good spellions in the play lead him to jointly rule with Albany following Lears death.
Edgar spends much of the play cloaked as darkened tom. In fact when hes not disguised he seems very passive and powerless; he is easily fooled by Edmund and doesnt assert himself at all. When he disguises himself as Old Tom although he now has nothing and has to induce to be mad he has a lot much impact on the events of the play. He helps his father and shows much more heroism than he does in Act One. Like Lear his nature is much improved despite his circumstances. The use of disguise progresses Edgars caseisation as he moves from one role to another. unalike Edmund, Edgars deceptions are honest and done for the right rea discussions. Edgar is of product line Edmunds opposite. The brothers are contrasted at every point. Edgar is the loyal son of the feudal father, pious, resourceful, kind, above all legitimate, and Edmund is cruel and disloyal.
Edgars character encompasses Old Tom and the relationship between Tom and Edgar form ill-defined.
Edgar simply pretends to be Old Tom and then becomes Edgar again. Tom is a richer character because he includes Edgar; it is no surprise that close of the action that Edgar does is whilst disguised as Tom. Edgar only begins to appear as a major character after ridding himself of his noble fit out before then he is very passive. He refers to himself as nothing yet he is something: ironically despite his disguise he has substance.
Edgar is clearly a figure of good in the play. Unlike Lear and Cordelia who both make mistakes it is hard to blame Edgar for the panache he is treated he may have acted passively but there is not a lot he could have done to prevent his fate.
