Thurgood Marshall was born on July 2, 1908, in Baltimore, Maryland and from a very young age was faced with racial disgust but his father William Marshall, instilled in him an appreciation for the United States typography and the rule of law. His family enjoyed a comfortable, middle-class existence. Marshalls parents placed great emphasis on education, encouraging Thurgood to think and learn. When he was 6 years old and just starting school, on that point was an increase in racial hostility in Baltimore.
though he was too young to truly appreciate the trespass of this, it was just the beginning of racial tensions that he would be confronted with. The Baltimore Afro-American, the militant black paper that sold throughout the state, wrote an editorial quetch that no one could remember a time when tensions amongst the races were so troubled. The citys black political leading reacted to the hostile climate by becoming more politically organized and stirring people to join the Baltimore branch of the bleak NAACP.
