The annals Boys by Alan Bennett, is about 8 highly academic boys who ar studying in order to sit their Cambridge and Oxford entry examinations. Theyre taught by two teachers, Hector and Irwin both with completely contrary teaching strategies. Hector, has strong feeling toward emotional subjects poetry, and has no intention in educating the boys for the Oxbridge examinations. Hector in the play is used to represent learning and compared to formal education is much about manners experience and cultural learning, used end-to-end life. Irwin, a new teacher taken on stringently to get the students into Oxbridge, teaches the boy purely for their examinations. Educating Rita by Willy Russell is about a woman, who wishes to become educating, and having to overcome the difficulties of formal education, as Rita has very pocket-sized previous education, and comes from a working class background.

In The History Boys, Alan Bennett manages makes the audience feel sympathetic toward Hector, which allows Hector to get outside with the inappropriate teaching methods that he sometimes has, for example touch sensation the boys on his motorcycle. The close relationship that Hector has with the Boys makes Hectors inappropriate actions seem almost like friendly banter, and accordingly his actions are slightly accepted by the audience. Hector sees familiarity as precious, he doesnt believe in the functionary system but believes that what he is teaching the boys is vital in their future lives, and is more concerned with educating the boys in for later life than the temporary education to pass their examinations. When Hector is told that the boys wished to go to Oxford or Cambridge, Hector replies with I thought all that silliness was finished with.
