I have personally led Soldiers during numerous bit operations and relate the success of the Platoon directly to leaders executing tough and realistic training. The training that I as a Platoon Sergeant (PSG) and my Executive Officer (XO) executed during peacetime with our Platoon prior to deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I (OIF I) greatly impacted the prohibitedcome of the Units wartime cathexis. I will present a detailed account of how my crucible experience as a Leader provided me the knowledge of how realistic training in place impact success of mission accomplishment during Combat Operations. My crucible experience provided me the knowledge that as a Leader I must ensure my Soldiers are properly proficient.
The events I go through during besiege changed the way I think as a leader and forced me to put emphasis on mission accomplishment. I witnessed firsthand that by enforcing tough standards, discipline and training of Soldiers will save lives on the Battlefield.
While assigned to Charlie Battery, second Battalion (Bn), 5th Field Artillery (FA) I performed the duties of PSG during combat for the second platoon. I had a motivated group of Soldiers that the XO and I pushed to the limits of their ability as we prepared to execute the combat mission assigned to the Battery. The Battery Commander and First Sergeant knew my Platoon was trained but they favored the other platoon and their Soldiers.
